Nuvaring in Houston, TX
If birth control pills and IUDs are not right for you, we recommend that you consider NUVARING® for contraception. Board-certified (gynecological) surgeon, Dr. Farhina Imtiaz of North Cypress Women’s Center offers NUVARING® to women in Houston and surrounding areas of Texas, including Cypress, Sugarland, and Katy
What is NUVARING®?
NUVARING® is a unique contraceptive device that you replace every three weeks. It consists of a flexible round ring that is inserted into the vagina. The ring is treated with hormones that are gradually released to prevent pregnancy.
NUVARING® Benefits
NUVARING® is an excellent option for women who want an alternative to birth control pills and intrauterine devices (IUD). The device is replaced every three weeks, so it does not have the long-term support of IUDs. You can insert and remove NUVARING® at home, whereas IUDs and arm implants have to be inserted and removed by a clinician. Unlike birth control pills that you need to remember each day, NUVARING® is used for three weeks. You remove the ring, wait one week and put in a new ring.
When Can I Use NUVARING®?
If you use NUVARING® as directed, the device provides you with round-the-clock protection from pregnancy. You do not have to remember to take a pill, and for monogamous couples, NUVARING® may eliminate the need for condoms, although NUVARING® does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases.
How Do I Use NUVARING®?
Dr. Imtiaz will explain how to properly insert and remove the device. In general, Dr. Imtiaz recommends you use a tampon applicator shell, place the ring inside the applicator, and use the applicator to insert the flexible ring into your vagina. After 21 days, you remove the device from the vagina. You should expect to have a period after the ring is removed. About one week after the nuva ring is removed, you should insert and new ring.
NUVARING® Preparation
NUVARING® is not for everyone. Dr. Imtiaz will discuss your medical history, desires for children and sexual activity to determine if NUVARING® is an option for contraception.
NUVARING® Results
You should not feel the ring if it is properly inserted into the vagina. The device should not interfere with sexual activity. Dr. Imtiaz may recommend that you avoid sex for a period of time to allow your body to adjust to the hormones that are released by NUVARING®.
How Much Does NUVARING® Cost in Houston?
NUVARING® is covered by most major medical insurances. You may be responsible for a portion of the cost, such as a co-payment, deductible or co-insurance. Payment can be made by cash, check or major credit card. Financing is available through CareCredit®.
